Spider Mite Control using Predators |
|
These .5 mm. insects live for approximately 8 days in their immature stages, and 36 days as adults. They are effective predators in both stages. Ideal conditions for them are between 70 and 85 degrees F, with relative humidity of 60-90%. They can live in a variety of conditions, but cooler temperatures will slow their reproduction and development. They will not do well in cold climates. Packed in vermiculite, in a bottle, they are very easy to distribute. Shipped on leaves, they are more effective. These tiny insects are extremely efficient and thorough hunters, but they will starve to death if their are no spider mites available for them to eat. They only eat mites of the genus Tetranychus, such as two-spotted spider mites. They are appropriate for use on any crop, and have been especially useful for growing strawberries and other long-growing crops in warm conditions.
